Partial Government Shutdown in the U.S. Ends

The partial government shutdown in the U.S., resulting from a budget dispute between parties, has ended following a vote in the House of Representatives.

The budget disagreement arose after Democrats demanded changes in response to the shooting deaths of two American citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis, leading to the approval of a $1.2 trillion spending package in the House.

The resolution to overcome the partial shutdown was made possible by removing a provision related to the funding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which is criticized for its strict policies against irregular immigrants and even American citizens.

While disagreements between Democrats and Republicans regarding the DHS continue, the spending package to fund federal agencies was narrowly approved with a vote of 217 to 214 after President Donald Trump's call for compromise.

Discussions regarding the future and funding of the DHS formed the most controversial part of the budget package.

Democratic lawmakers called for federal agents under the DHS to wear body cameras and not to wear masks to conceal their identities.

They also demanded changes to strict security protocols that resulted in the deaths of American citizens.

While the Senate approved five spending bills included in the package, it removed the sixth bill that provided funding for the DHS.

In this context, sufficient funding for the DHS to continue its operations for two weeks was also approved.

The compromise reached in the Senate was also accepted by the House today.

Once signed by the President, the partial government shutdown that began on Saturday will end.

This bill will finance a significant portion of the federal government until September 30 and provide short-term funding for the DHS, which enforces the country's immigration laws, until February 13.
